TL;DR
Agnes retrieves her motorcycle from the Mercator's hangar, then races with Angie toward their new vessel: the Enterprise. Their thunderous entrance into the shuttle bay surprises a lieutenant. Agnes demands that the previous captain's chair be replaced with her own, and summons her officers for a first meeting in her quarters.
Story
In the Mercator's shuttle bay, everything is in complete chaos.
Torn beams litter the floor.
Split-open containers have been overturned in the chaos of the evacuation.
Everywhere, traces of what the vessel endured... and of what it could not hold back.
While Angie checks that her little shuttle survived and organizes its transfer to the Enterprise, I search through the wreckage for my motorcycle.
After a few moments, I finally spot it.
Wedged behind a collapsed bulkhead.
I stubbornly clear away the rubble, without really believing it... then I uncover it, almost intact.
To my great satisfaction, it survived the ordeals of the past week.
I start it up.
The engine responds immediately, purring like new.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Angie!
Coming?
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
I am cooooming, Agnes!
Wait for me!
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Hold on tight.
We're going to smash the spacedock lap record.
Like lightning, I launch my Ducati up the Mercator's access ramp and immediately veer right.
I weave at full speed between the docks, through the frantic ballet of personnel and machines, with no one having time to understand what just shot past them.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Angie, are you holding on tight?
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Yeaaaah!
Do not worry about me, Agnes.
Open her up!
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Hothead, he said...
Ha ha ha!
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
And he has not seen anything yet, that Michaux!
Right, Agnes?
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
If he knew even a tenth of what you've already done, he'd have a heart attack.
Ha ha ha!
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Agnes, brake!
The Enterprise is the next ramp on the right!
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
I see it.
Thank you, copilot Chen.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Anytime, pilot Rodriguez.
On the ramp, I pick up just enough speed.
The Ducati takes off.
A brief moment of suspension...
Then, as we approach the floor, I pivot the motorcycle with precision.
We land in a controlled slide inside the Enterprise's shuttle bay, leaving a long dark streak behind us on the immaculate deck.
Precision.
Elegance.
Maybe a little too much of both.
An officer rushes toward us, red-faced, yelling like a man possessed.
Lt. Maestria
Have you lost your minds?!
What the hell are you doing here?!
Do you think this is a circus?!
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Good morning, Lieutenant.
Is there a problem?
Lt. Maestria
Oh...
Sorry, Captain.
I did not recognize you.
Uh... no.
No problem.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Perfect.
I am entrusting you with my bike.
Put it somewhere safe... and do not let anyone near it.
Lt. Maestria
Aye, Captain.
The lieutenant wheels my bike away, still visibly shaken by our arrival.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Ha ha ha!
That, Agnes, is what you call making a thunderous entrance.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
You said it, Angie.
So...
What do we do now?
Cabin or bridge?
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
The bridge first.
Let's go say hello to our brave officers.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Lieutenant, could you point us toward the bridge elevator?
Lt. Maestria
There is no elevator on the Enterprise, Captain.
Here, they are turbolifts.
Out of the bay, left, then at the end of the corridor.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Thank you, Lieutenant.
So we head not toward an elevator, but toward a turbolift.
I am going to have to get used to it. The Mercator was not equipped with one.
What's the difference?
The turbolift does not merely go up or down: it moves in every direction, vertical and horizontal. A luxury... when you have a strong stomach.
After a few seconds of being shaken in every direction, the sliding doors finally open.
We enter our new command room.
The bridge of the Enterprise.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
That's strange, Angie...
There is no one here.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
That's not surprising.
The duty schedule has not been established yet.
Our officers are probably checking out their new quarters.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Angie...
What is that horrible thing doing right in the middle of the bridge?
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Uh...
Looks like some kind of high chair.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Is this a joke or what?
I glare at the ridiculous high chair with a grimace of disgust, roll my eyes, and mutter something unintelligible before heading straight for the communications station.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
But Agnes...
What are you doing at Emilie's console?
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
I am trying to contact Vitos to see if he can get rid of that monstrosity for me.
I am not the captain of a tennis court!
How does this console work again?
I tap randomly at the screen.
Nothing.
The panel blinks twice, lets out a disapproving beep, then goes dark in an almost mocking silence.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Move over, Agnes...
Let the pro handle it.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Heeeee—
Before I even have time to protest, Angie shoves me aside without ceremony and takes my place.
Her fingers fly across the console at an almost aggressive speed.
In three seconds, the interface lights back up, the channels open, and Vitos's voice is already coming through the speaker.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Vitos? Chen here.
Ens. Eros Vitos Weapons Engineer
Oooh, Commander Chen.
What can I do for you?
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Captain Rodriguez could use your handyman skills.
Ens. Eros Vitos Weapons Engineer
What does she want me to tinker with this time?
Another DX launcher?
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Very funny, Vitos.
When you get a chance, head to the Mercator's bridge and bring the captain's chair over to the Enterprise.
Ens. Eros Vitos Weapons Engineer
The Enterprise doesn't have a captain's chair, Commander?
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
There is one...
But that one is clearly not worthy of Captain Rodriguez.
If you can bring her old chair over and reinstall it, she'd really appreciate it.
Can you do that, Vitos?
Ens. Eros Vitos Weapons Engineer
Of course, Commander.
I am going right away.
Vitos out.
Angie ends the call with a sharp gesture, then turns toward me with a triumphant smile.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
You see, my dear Agnes, it is not that complicated.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Myeah...
I am a little rusty. Delegating so much made me forget how the communications console works.
While we are at it, can you also send a message to Emilie, Eric, and Charlene?
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Of course.
What do you want to tell them?
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Summon them to my quarters.
Have all three report together as soon as they are available.
Angie does it at once. With a few precise gestures, she drafts and sends the messages.
The console lets out a brief chirp, confirming the messages have been sent.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
There. Done.
Shall we go check out our cabin?
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
You mean... MY cabin.
It's the captain's quarters, Angie.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
Oh...
You don't want me anymore?
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
Ha ha ha...
Of course I do. That's just what it's called on this ship.
Cmdr. Angie Chen Number One
I'm not sure how I'm supposed to take that, Agnes.
Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez
You know my home is your home.
So don't give it another thought, my angel.
Angie sketches a smile, then slips her hand into mine.
Together, we leave the bridge, ready to discover our new home.
