TL;DR

A simple pillow fight turns into a giant foam slide, leaving the captain's quarters in a catastrophic state. Manu is called to the rescue, gets a better cabin thanks to Angie, and is even offered an official consultant role aboard the Enterprise.

Story

With Emilie, Charlene, and Eric gone from our quarters, we find ourselves alone again.

Angie, standing in the middle of the living room, grabs the screen remote and starts a song.

To the rhythm of the music, she lets her robe slide down to her feet... before bursting out laughing.

In their quarters, Angie dances and lets her robe slide down.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

What has gotten into you, Angie?

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Ha ha ha!

I am anticipating the clothing shortage, sweetheart.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Oooooh...

You are going to attract an armada of aliens if you show off like that.

Ha ha ha!

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Hee hee... wait until I catch you, Agnes, and you will see how I tame those extraterrestrials of yours!

I will make them dance the way I made you shake it the other day on the Mercator's deck...

With Admiral Hamilton jumping up and down on the spot!

Angie grabs a cushion within reach and flings it straight into my face.

The counterattack is immediate.

Within seconds, a joyful, uncontrollable pillow fight breaks out. It is an old habit. We launch friendly attacks, dodge flying projectiles, and burst out laughing at every impact.

But this time, the confrontation takes an even more colorful turn.

The battle degenerates into something worthy of an improvised wrestling match. We exaggerate every move, bounce from couch to bed, challenge each other with improbable holds and theatrical throws. Each of us tries to outdo the other in inventiveness.

Carried away by our enthusiasm, we end up in the bathroom.

Angie opens every bottle of soap and empties them onto the tiles, then immediately sprays the floor with the shower head. With a burst of almost devilish laughter, I take a running start, launch myself... and land flat on my stomach, sliding over the soapy surface in an explosion of laughter.

The water keeps running, spraying us both.

In this shared euphoria, I switch on the dryer.

The cloud grows thicker.

We find ourselves swallowed by a sea of light white foam, covered from head to toe.

Agnes and Angie are overwhelmed by a sea of foam in their quarters.

Finally, out of breath from laughing like kids, I switch off the dryer.

We step out of the bathroom soaked, covered in foam, skin cool, our minds completely free of any tension.

But my quarters... are in an absolutely deplorable state.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Angie...

The next time you start a fight, make sure we are at your place.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Hee hee...

We have to admit that, this time, we may have gone a little too far.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Yes...

But now you are going to have to help me put everything back in order.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Wait, Agnes.

I am going to call Manu.

This is his specialty.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Oooh no, Angie.

Do not drag Manu into this.

He will make fun of us!

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Heeey...

Sounds like our brave Captain Rodriguez is afraid of our custodian!

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Not at all.

I just do not want our nonsense to become a topic of conversation throughout the whole ship.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

You have to own it, my dear Agnes.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

All right...

You win.

Call him.

Angie puffs out her chest, triumphant, as if she has just won the contest.

She walks over to the communication terminal, taps it with her fingertips, and puts on a falsely professional expression.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Hello, Manu.

Chen here.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Audio channel

Good morning, Commander.

What can I do for you?

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Could you come to the captain's quarters?

We could use your cleaning talents.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Audio channel

Uh... yes, Commander Chen.

Did she spill her cup of coffee on the floor again?

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

You could say that, yes.

Do not forget to bring your equipment.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Audio channel

No problem, Commander.

I will gather my things and be at your door in two minutes.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Perfect, Manu.

See you in a moment.

The channel cuts off with a faint crackle.

Angie stretches at length, then flops down on the couch, visibly very pleased with herself.

The terminal light slowly goes out.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Poor Manu...

When he sees the job waiting for him, he is going to hate us.

Honestly, Angie, we should have cleaned it ourselves.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Hmm... yes, Agnes.

But Manu desperately wants to make a good impression on you.

And this cheerful mess is a golden opportunity for him.

Driiiing! Driiiing!

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

There he is, ringing.

Open the door for him, Angie.

Angie jumps off the couch and makes her way between the scattered cushions, puddles of water, and traces of foam still carpeting the floor.

She places her hand on the biometric reader.

A beep sounds.

The door slides open with a discreet breath.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Hi, Commander.

Hi, Agnes.

Ooooooh...

By Aphrodite's mustache! What happened here?

Did you let a cyclone in for the place to be in this state?

Manu arrives in Agnes and Angie's quarters to assess the damage from the foam fight.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Good morning, Manu.

In a way.

Can we count on your discretion?

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Of course, Agnes.

But I have a request to make before I tackle the big cleanup.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

I am listening, Manu.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Your idiot officer in charge of cabin assignments stuck me in the laundry room as my quarters.

Could you fix that for me?

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Ha ha ha!

Of course, Manu.

I am sorry to hear that.

Angie, will you handle it?

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Yes, Agnes.

I am checking.

Angie turns toward the large living-room screen, scrolls through the assignment list with a distracted gesture, and lets out a faint sigh.

Her eyes narrow; she taps the interface with the tip of her finger, as if checking that it is not a mistake.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

I am sorry, Manu...

All the cabins have already been snapped up.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Oooh no...

Please do not tell me I am going to sleep in that hole!

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Do not worry, Manu.

I have a solution you should like.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Above all...

Please do not assign me another stinking laundry room.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

No.

I am giving you my suite.

Since I live here with the captain, my quarters are free.

They are yours.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Wow, Commander Chen...

That is amazing!

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

See, everything works out, Manu.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Oh yes, Agnes.

While we are at it...

You told me we would sort out my pay once we reached the starbase.

Now that we are here, what are you offering?

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

That is correct.

For your services on the Mercator during the Earth-Moon crossing, I owe you something.

I have not talked to Admiral Michaux about it yet, but we can make another arrangement.

With a long-term benefit.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Meaning?

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

You were effective during the trip.

So I am offering you the chance to continue on the Enterprise, but this time with official counselor-consultant status.

Your salary will be nearly doubled.

And you keep your custodian position.

Do you accept my offer?

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Will I still work with Charlene?

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

With Charlene, Emilie...

Or even Angie and me.

It will depend on the missions.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Under those conditions...

I accept your offer, Agnes.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Deal.

Angie, can you update the manifest?

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Number One)

Already in progress, Agnes.

Manu (Requisitioned Civilian)

Honestly, girls...

You are wonderful.

Well... except maybe for the cleanup duty in your apartment.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Ha ha ha...

I am really sorry, Manu.

Next time, we will be careful... and try to spare you that.
