Previously

At the orbital yard, Agnes and Angie discovered the brand-new USS Outta Time, a ship still under construction entrusted to T'Met and Tarsi by the Temporal Division. There they reunited with Lingua, now in humanoid holographic form, as well as two resurrected relics: Angie's shuttle Herbie 53 and Agnes's motorcycle Money Penny, livelier than ever. But this courtesy visit was only a prelude: something larger was being prepared behind the yard's walls.

TL;DR

On the bridge of the brand-new USS Outta Time, Agnes and Angie finally meet Admiral Censsukr', Quihoui's successor at the head of the Temporal Division. Censsukr' reveals the true scope of their actions: the Schak'Irra timeline has not completely disappeared. Fragments of reality remain, preserved in the quantum flow. She then assigns them a crucial mission: join the Temporal Division to investigate those anomalies and find Admiral Quihoui, still on the run. Aboard a ship not yet complete but already carrying a new destiny, Agnes accepts shared command with T'Met, sealing the rebirth of their crew.

Story

The doors slide open with a discreet breath. T'Met leads the way, followed by Tarsi and Lingua, then Angie and me. We advance through the soft silence of this ship. As we step onto the freshly installed bridge, a strange sensation comes over me. As if this place, both familiar and alien, expects me to sit in the captain's chair and give the order to depart.

I drift for a moment, then pull myself together. I observe the vast room, functional despite its transitional state. A few consoles still under covers, seats not yet assigned, the smell of new metal and freshly installed electronics. And at the far end, dominating the space with quiet brightness: the main screen.

That is where she stands. Silent. Majestic. A Caitian, tall and straight, tail neatly folded around her leg. Her cream-colored fur is streaked with dark marks that look almost silver under the bridge's cold lighting. Her hands, or should I say paws, are crossed behind her back, her gaze lost in contemplation of Earth suspended in the black of space.

I do not need to see her face. I already know who she is. Angie knows too. Admiral Censsukr', the new direct superior of T'Met and Tarsi, who succeeded Admiral Quihoui at the highest post of Starfleet's Temporal Division.

As we approach, she slowly turns and looks me straight in the eyes.

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

Captain Agnes Valentine Rodriguez, Commander Angie Chen. Officers of the 21st-century NATO Special Fleet, natives of the Schak'Irra timeline.

Your careers are, to say the least, impressive. You survived the explosion of an experimental gigaton-class thermonuclear warhead, commanded USS Mercator and USS Enterprise, both destroyed in combat. You faced Russian forces and Tholians, saved a French president, captured a senior Russian leader, freed Starfleet officers, including Captain T'Met, held captive for nearly seven decades, dismantled the Kremlin itself, destroyed a Tholian dreadnought, escaped Orion pirates...

And, according to your own personal logbook, Captain Rodriguez, you met an omnipotent entity named Q.

Finally, together, you saved our entire timeline.

I must admit, that is not the kind of resume one encounters often.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

Uh...

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

No need to answer. I have spent several days studying your files in detail.

I absolutely wanted to find an opportunity to speak with you both personally. Today, that opportunity finally presented itself.

Angie Chen

Hum, you know... we only did our job.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

With all due respect, Admiral... our goal was never to save your timeline, or the Federation.

Our priority was to protect the NATO alliance. And we failed.

By destroying our temporality, we also condemned billions of human beings on our Earth.

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

I understand your position, Captain Rodriguez, and I respect it. But do not believe you failed.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

What do you mean?

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

Commander Tarsi, please.

Cmdr. Vexoriana-Lyss'ra Tarsi

When I was on the Sea of Tranquility, waiting for you, I detected residual traces of old vortexes in your space.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

I remember. You told me about them... during our boxing session on Enterprise.

Cmdr. Vexoriana-Lyss'ra Tarsi

I analyzed them this week. It turns out they were Quantum Stabilization Bridges.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

Huh? Could you translate that into plain French?

Capt. T'Met

What Commander Tarsi is trying to say is that those vortex traces temporarily stabilized a portion of Schak'Irra reality.

As if a kind of partial backup had anchored itself around Earth and the Moon.

Angie Chen

That whole thing is completely insane...

Agnes V. Rodriguez

Well, I don't understand a thing...

Lingua (Hologram)

To put it simply: the destruction of the Schak'Irra timeline was never total. Certain actions left persistent imprints in the flow of the universe.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

Thank you, Lingua. Now I'm starting to get it.

But apart from Tarsi and VSS Schak'Irra... who could have traveled between the two realities?

Capt. T'Met

Admiral Quihoui and the Tholians.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

Hum, Admiral Quihoui. Hasn't she been captured yet?

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

No. At present, other priorities require our full attention.

I ordered the entire Temporal Division fleet to regroup in the Procyon V system.

Given the situation, I cannot afford to detach a ship to search for her.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

You are not just going to let her get away without lifting a finger, are you?

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

Not exactly.

That is precisely why I brought you here, aboard USS Outta Time.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

Us? And what do we have to do with it?

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

You, and your crew, are returning to duty.

I am officially recruiting you into Starfleet's Temporal Division.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

Admiral, I have a good sense of humor... but I do not find this joke very tasteful.

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

Construction of USS Outta Time will be completed within ten months. That is the time I grant you to prepare to take command of her, alongside Captain T'Met.

Your mission: find Admiral Quihoui and investigate the persistent anomalies of the Schak'Irra temporality.

Your knowledge of that space-time and your field record make you a candidate I cannot ignore.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

And... I don't get a say? What if I refuse?

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

In that case, you will still have the option of growing vines in the deepest corner of France.

Angie Chen

Come on, accept, Agnes. We had nothing else planned.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

I will accept. But on several conditions.

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

You have my full attention, Captain Rodriguez.

Agnes V. Rodriguez

Every member of my crew keeps their rank.

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

Granted.

Next?

Agnes V. Rodriguez

Health insurance, five weeks of paid vacation, and a thirteenth month.

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

Please repeat. I did not understand.

Cmdr. Vexoriana-Lyss'ra Tarsi

Admiral... 21st-century humans used to demand certain rights in exchange for their work.

Today, those guarantees are automatically provided by the Federation.

Adm. Censsukr' (Temporal Division)

Thank you for the clarification, Commander Tarsi.

Captain Rodriguez, all your requirements are accepted.

With that, I leave you. Other priorities await me.

She taps her combadge. In a bluish halo, Admiral Censsukr' dematerializes silently, without another word. The space she occupied suddenly seems larger. Angie slowly approaches me, eyes shining, and holds me very tight. She says nothing, but her tears say everything. T'Met, Tarsi, and Lingua join us in silence, as if something fundamental has just been sealed between these still-bare walls.

And there you have it, dear reader. That is how we crossed time, leaving our good old 21st century, with its absurd wars, lukewarm pizzas, and half-finished AIs, to land in the heart of the 26th, with gleaming ships, holograms with hair, and admirals who speak as if they already know the end of the story.

We lost one world. Found another. We faced warheads, Tholians, Orions, and truths we would rather have left behind. And now we are being asked to begin again. To set out once more. To take command of a ship that is not yet finished, in a universe we do not really understand, searching for a vanished traitor and a half-erased reality. I do not yet know whether I accepted because I truly wanted to... or because there was nothing else to do.

But one thing is certain: This is not the end. It is never the end.

Angie Chen

Say, Agnes... now that you're done telling your story, how about we go get a taco?

Agnes V. Rodriguez

You think they have those in the 26th century?

Cmdr. Vexoriana-Lyss'ra Tarsi

Heeey, stop treating us like backward fools. The synthesizer has just been installed in Outta Time's mess hall.

Capt. T'Met

...Tacos?

Lingua (Hologram)

Tacos. Search in progress...

Found: popular 21st-century Earth dish. Corn pancake filled with meat, cheese... rolled and fried.
