After its warp escape, USS Enterprise drifts through unknown space without propulsion. Captain Agnes Rodriguez, miraculously awakened from her coma, has restored order aboard: she integrated the survivors from Schak'Irra and Colonel Gomard's elite unit under a single command. The crew is now working to repair the ship. Tarsi supervises repairs to the intermix chamber, while T'Met handles connecting Schak'Irra's artificial intelligence to Enterprise.

TL;DR

Back in sickbay, Agnes Rodriguez finally submits to Dr. Calpel's examination. But as the bandages come off, astonishment grows: the captain's wounds have vanished without a trace. Five bullets to the rib cage during the special operation in Russia, no impact left behind. The scanners confirm the impossible: her body is intact, as if regenerated. Angie suspects a consequence of T'Met's mind meld, but the Vulcan denies any direct involvement: her practice cannot produce such a spectacular recovery. Faced with this biological mystery, neither science nor Vulcan logic is enough. Something seems to have acted beyond known laws. Calpel lifts the observation order: Agnes is free, but the origin of her recovery remains a divinely troubling mystery.

Story

With the meeting adjourned, everyone leaves my office to attend to their tasks. As for me, Angie escorts me back to sickbay, where the doctor is waiting for me.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

Here we are, Doctor. As promised, I am bringing Captain Rodriguez back to you.

Dr. Victor S. Calpel

Not a moment too soon. Lie down on the cot at the back and remove your gown.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

All right, Doctor. Are you staying, Angie?

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

Of course I am staying by your side.

Angie holds my hand while the doctor removes my bandages. As the strips fall away, his expression grows more and more worried.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

What is it, Doctor?

Dr. Victor S. Calpel

See for yourself! This is insane!

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

Oooh my God! Your wounds are gone!

Dr. Victor S. Calpel

In my entire career, I have never seen anything like this!

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Meaning?

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

Come on, Agnes! You took five bullets to the rib cage! This is not normal!

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

That, I know. Do you have an explanation, Doctor?

Dr. Victor S. Calpel

From a medical standpoint, it is simply impossible for wounds this severe to vanish completely, especially in only two days. When I changed your dressings yesterday, you were still in very bad shape.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

T'Met!

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

What about T'Met?

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

Outside the medical team, she is the only one who came near you to treat you with her thing, uh, I cannot remember what it is called...

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Hmm, when you were in my office, you talked about a mind meld.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

That's it. She just put her fingers on your face to probe your mind, but honestly, I have never believed in all those charlatan practices. I am going to call her.

While Angie summons T'Met to sickbay, the doctor remains perplexed and runs me through multiple scans. The results are staggering. He finds no lesion.

Dr. Victor S. Calpel

I am categorical. It is as if you had never been injured. Are you feeling any pain?

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

No, I feel fine, apart from a few dizzy spells from time to time.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

Here comes T'Met.

Capt. T'Met

Greetings, Doctor. What can I do for you?

Dr. Victor S. Calpel

What did you do to my patient? She is completely healed!

Capt. T'Met

Impossible. Her condition required several months of rest!

Dr. Victor S. Calpel

I agree with you, but see for yourself!

Capt. T'Met

Interesting.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

Interesting, you say!!! Is this the result of the mind meld you performed on Agnes?

Capt. T'Met

No. As I already said, the mind meld I performed was intended to synchronize mind and body. It facilitates healing, but not to the point of restoring the patient so quickly.

Cmdr. Angie Chen (Acting Capt.)

Did you consider that your Vulcan practices may not apply to humans?

Capt. T'Met

Many humans have already undergone mind melds. If there had been doubts about its use, I would not have applied it to Captain Rodriguez.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

I believe you, Captain T'Met. Whether or not you are the source of my healing, I thank you for your intervention.

Capt. T'Met

Very well, Captain Rodriguez. May I be dismissed and return to my tasks?

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Yes, please.

Dr. Victor S. Calpel

Captain Rodriguez, I no longer have any reason to keep you in sickbay. However, you will come see me once a day so I can examine you.

Capt. Agnes V. Rodriguez

Thank you, Doctor.
