Emilie Flores

Ensign Emilie Flores in 2024 - NATO - Special Fleet

Emilie Flores is an ensign in NATO's Special Fleet, assigned to communications and systems aboard the USS Mercator. A young specialist from British intelligence, she brings the crew a rare skill: understanding signals, protocols, and technical flaws when the situation becomes unreadable.

Brilliant, curious, and often calmer than she should be, Emilie functions as a discreet point of balance on the bridge. She is not a front-line fighter, but her role becomes decisive whenever communications, data, or enemy systems can tip a mission one way or another.

First Appearance
Book I - Episode 8, Mercator, during a very noticeable emergency in the men's restroom.

Profile

Emilie does not occupy the emotional center of the story, but she holds several of its technical threads. She listens, picks up, translates, decrypts, and cross-checks information before others can act.

Her discreet humor, curiosity, and complicity with Charlene Savea also give her a more human place within the crew. With Eric Corda, she is one of those characters whose private life crosses the catastrophe without ever disappearing completely behind the uniforms.

Her past connected to MI6 remains discreet, but it leaves concrete traces in the story, notably through her glasses, which can recognize and interact with certain British technologies from the 21st century.

Reputation and Perception

Emilie is quickly perceived as an unusual young officer: awkward in certain very concrete situations, but formidable as soon as communications, protocols, or computer systems are involved.

Agnes gives her the benefit of the doubt precisely because her file does not match that of a simple beginner. Behind the restroom incident and her still very young age, Emilie already has MI6 experience and a rare ability to understand the networks around her.

Life Story

Childhood and technical interest. Emilie develops an interest in communications and technology very early. Her father, a telecommunications engineer, strongly influences her path.

Training and recruitment. After a brilliant academic path in science and mathematics, she is spotted for her potential in communications, cryptography, and data analysis. She joins the British Military Intelligence environment before her assignment to the Special Fleet.

NATO Special Fleet. In 2024, Emilie serves as communications ensign on the Mercator, under the authority of the command team of Agnes Rodriguez and Angie Chen.

Training and Skills

Her skills cover cryptography, decryption of secure data, communication protocols, complex data analysis, programming of communication systems, and management of shipboard networks.

She also has good knowledge of certain 21st-century British technologies, especially systems connected to MI6 and the AspiroTube network.

Outside duty, Emilie enjoys chess, puzzles, science fiction, and classical music. Her relationship with Eric Corda is part of her personal anchor within the crew.

After Episode 8 - Entrance

Read after Episode 8.

Emilie first appears aboard the Mercator in a situation as urgent as it is unprotocolar: late because of a blocked SonicShuttle, she rushes through the corridors and picks the wrong door, ending up in the men's restroom under the stunned gaze of Agnes and Angie.

The incident mainly reveals a young officer still finding her footing aboard. Angie sees it as proof of immaturity, but Agnes points out that Emilie is only nineteen, has been aboard for just one week, already has an impressive background in cryptography, and was trusted by MI6.

This first appearance therefore sets the tone: Emilie may cause an absurd moment at the start of a duty day, but she is not there by chance. Behind the embarrassment, Agnes already identifies a specialist the crew will need.

After Episode 10 - In Hamilton's Good Books

Read after Episode 10.

During his conversation with Agnes, Admiral Hamilton mentions Emilie as a new recruit he has already noticed favorably. He does not immediately remember her name, but he remembers very well that she helped him recover his passwords with impressive efficiency.

This detail confirms that the restroom incident does not define Emilie. She is still acclimating to the Mercator, but her technical skills have already attracted attention beyond the bridge.

After Episode 35 - Enterprise

Read after Episode 35.

After Earth's collapse and the loss of the Mercator, Emilie follows Agnes, Angie, Eric, Charlene, and Eros to the Enterprise. Her presence in the new crew confirms that the vessel rests not only on a chain of command, but on a core of survivors already tested by the crisis.

She receives the NATO Fleet Medal of Courage with Eric and Charlene. This distinction does not turn Emilie into a spectacular heroine, but it marks her passage from promising young specialist to decorated survivor.

After Episode 63 - Bridge Relay

Read after Episode 63.

Aboard the Enterprise, Emilie becomes one of the bridge's regular voices. She receives reports, opens channels, transmits orders, and maintains communications when ground and space operations overlap.

Her post is less visible than command or piloting, but it makes coordination possible between Agnes, Angie, ground teams, Tal'Kyr, and the other allies. In a story where information often arrives too late, Emilie is one of those who win the crew a few seconds.

After Episode 111 - Anchoring in 1954

Read after Episode 111.

After the Enterprise arrives in 1954, Emilie monitors communications and radio waves to confirm that the vessel has reached the right era. She picks up Radio Paris, whose information about the Tour de France, the Geneva talks, and the broadcast of Edith Piaf provides an immediate historical anchor.

This moment neatly sums up her function in the temporal arcs: Emilie does not pilot the journey, but she helps the crew read the era through its most ordinary signals. A simple radio broadcast becomes proof of temporal location.

After Episode 115 - Flores's Virus

Read after Episode 115.

Facing Tarantula, Emilie exploits a breach opened by Tholian communications to design a virus capable of disabling enemy defenses. The idea does not come from a pure contest of force, but from a technical reading of the opposing system.

This program becomes one of the key elements of the final assault. When Agnes and Angie remain on the bridge, they use Emilie's virus to neutralize Tarantula's defenses before the Enterprise's final ram.

After Episode 120 - Temporal Survivor

Read after Episode 120.

After the evacuation and arrival in the 26th century, Emilie is among the survivors of the Enterprise welcomed in San Francisco, then settled at Vista Ridge. Like the others, she must understand a world where war, money, technology, and even everyday gestures no longer work according to her familiar reference points.

Her relationship with Eric and her friendship with Charlene help her keep human continuity through this uprooting. Emilie remains observant, often fascinated, sometimes overwhelmed, but rarely passive.

After Episode 128 - Lingua

Read after Episode 128.

During the clandestine operation organized from 2554, Emilie accompanies T'Met and Charlene in the temporal bubble toward the 1954 Enterprise. Before departure, she lends her MI6 glasses to T'Met to reduce the risk of confusion with her younger double and, without anticipating it, also gives her the tool that will activate Money Penny.

While T'Met goes to save Agnes and Angie, Emilie and Charlene recover Lingua's components in storage hold 3.

The procedure is anything but elegant: the dismantling turns into emergency tinkering, with torn wires, sparks, and time running out. But their intervention allows Lingua's components to be brought back into the temporal bubble before the destruction of the Enterprise.

Overall Portrait

Read after the end of Book I.

Emilie Flores enters the story through a comic, almost embarrassing scene, but that first impression does not define the character. Behind the young ensign trapped by a very ordinary emergency is a specialist in communications, networks, and technical flaws.

Her role is built in the shadow of great command gestures. Emilie opens channels, intercepts information, understands protocols, maintains links between teams, and sometimes turns a simple signal into decisive proof. In a story full of vessels, eras, and crises, she is often the one who listens before the others can act.

Her contribution becomes particularly visible at the end of Book I. In 1954, she helps the crew confirm its historical anchoring through radio broadcasts, then designs the virus used against Tarantula's defenses. Later, during the clandestine operation, she joins Charlene in recovering Lingua's components, in an intervention that looks less heroic on the surface but is essential to the AI's survival.

Emilie also remains one of the crew's points of softness. Her relationship with Eric, her friendship with Charlene, her sometimes candid reactions, and her taste for puzzles give her a more intimate presence than her communications post alone. She represents a young, adaptable, discreet intelligence able to grow very quickly in contact with a catastrophe far larger than her age.
